DC Design
Responsible for product design, DC Design is based in Berlin and emerged from the practice’s close involvement with interior design of spaces within our architectural projects, including the fittings, lighting and furniture to create a coherence with the wider project. Over time, DC Design also started working in direct collaboration with a range of manufacturers to design objects independently of architectural projects. The DC Design team comprises David Chipperfield, Dirk Gschwind and Paulo Dell'Elce and Samuel Lodetti.
The approach to product design mirrors the approach to larger architectural projects, celebrating skilled craftsmanship and interacting with simple ideas of the existing, of the vernacular, and materiality. The relationship with the user is very intimate and the products must consider, anticipate and postulate ways of using. While design at all scales engages this process, at the most intimate, domestic and personal scale, these considerations are fundamental for our product design.
