The Simon bench is a visitor‘s seat that was developed for the James-Simon-Galerie, the new entrance building on Berlin’s Museum Island. The design by David Chipperfield was realized in collaboration with the Frankfurt furniture manufacturer e15. The two metre bench comprises a slim, ten millimeter frame made of powder-coated steel and the seating surface itself, which is crafted from a complex sandwich system of natural leather, steel and flat functional upholstery. As a result of the high-quality production and the minimal material thicknesses, the bench has a light appearance while at the same time providing a high degree of comfort.
