David Chipperfield Architects Berlin is looking for a qualified architect with at least five years’ experience for large and complex international projects.

Founded in 1998 for the Neues Museum on Berlin’s Museum Island, David Chipperfield Architects Berlin is engaged in many areas of architecture, urban design, and interior design—both in the private and public sector, in Germany and internationally. David Chipperfield Architects Berlin has embraced a generational transition in leadership and has been operating under a collaborative management model in recent years. Today, our dynamic and diverse campus in Berlin-Mitte is home to around 120 staff. Our architects play a key role in shaping our projects. Working closely with the team, the project lead, and design management, they develop the design process step by step—from the initial concept sketch to execution. The focus is on translating the design concept into reality while ensuring seamless coordination with the team and consultants, always aligned with the specific requirements of each design stage. Their responsibilities include proactively structuring their workload (timeline), maintaining quality control over their design results, knowing, and adhering to the relevant norms and technical standards, and effectively communicating and coordinating project results. The architects advise the Project Lead with their valuable detailed knowledge.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the projects in early concept phases with in-depth studies for essential details
  • Establishment of the basis for the design
  • Holisitic conception, establishment, and realization up to the lead details on the basis of the developed design and permit design
  • Coordination and integration of consultants
  • Quality control of the design
  • Solid knowledge of technical standards
  • Product research
  • Where applicable, support and review of tendering and awarding of contracts
  • Where applicable, artistic supervision during construction

Required qualifications

  • Degree in architecture or engineering
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in large, international projects (emphasis on Concept to Technical design as well as site design supervision
  • Experience with complex, international projects
  • Expertise in construction
  • Legal knowledge
  • Experience in BIM processes
  • Very good knowledge of CAD (Archicad), in particular 3D-design
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of German (spoken and written) is an advantage
