Marcus Mathias studied architecture at the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) and the Escola Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona. Following his graduation in 1997, he worked as a qualified architect in various architectural practices, before joining David Chipperfield Architects Berlin in 2000. Initially he was involved with the restoration and new build design for the Neues Museum on Berlin’s Museum Island. From 2004 to 2005 Marcus undertook postgraduate studies in real estate economics at the European Business School in Berlin. The focus of his work as an architect is on the developed and technical design stages. As project architect he has led a wide range of projects, including the Rena Lange Headquarters Munich, the extension of David Chipperfield Architects’ campus in Berlin, the Forum Museumsinsel Berlin, Carmen Würth Forum in Künzelsau and the office building KARL in Munich. Marcus became an associate in the Berlin office in 2017.
