Alexander Schwarz joined David Chipperfield Architects in 1996, initially based in London before moving to the Berlin office in 1998. In 2011 he became a Partner in the Berlin office. Throughout his years in the practice, Alexander has been responsible for the design direction of a wide range of key projects and competitions, including the Neues Museum and the James-Simon-Galerie on Berlin’s Museum Island, the Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach and most recently the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
After completing an education in violin making, he studied architecture at the ETH Zürich, the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart and the Universität Stuttgart. Through his current academic commitments, he further combines the practice of architecture and research with teaching. In 2015, Alexander assumed the professorship for ‘Public Building and Design’ at the Universität Stuttgart.
