A traditional Meiboom ceremony took place on the 14 September to mark the tower component of the Hertog 1 residential development reaching its final height. Following custom, the branch of a tree was placed on top of the tower in the attendance of Leuven’s spatial planning councillor Carl Devlies, CEO of the developer Resiterra Erik Van Hoof and the David Chipperfield Architects’ project team. The 51-metre, 14-storey tower is just one part of the residential scheme that also incorporates nine townhouses and an apartment building all connected and using a coherent architectural language. As part of a masterplan for the redevelopment of a former hospital complex, the project contributes to the opening up of the site and its reintegration into the surrounding city. The first residents are set to move into the tower in spring of next year.
