The first visible signs of the two new buildings to be built on the Bötzow brewery site are emerging. Two mock-ups exploring different column construction techniques and surface finishes will support the team’s decisions on both the structure and tactile quality of the buildings. Since 2013 David Chipperfield Architects Berlin has been leading a major renovation of the former brewery complex in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. The restoration of the first four historic buildings, including the former boiler house, was completed in 2018 and houses an innovation centre for medical technology company Ottobock. The new buildings will include residential, restaurant and retail spaces, turning the complex once again into a public part of the city.
