Operating within the Model Making team, the model making assistant supports the Head of Model Making to produce high quality working models for architectural projects at David Chipperfield Architects, London. 
They will work closely and collaboratively with each project team from sketch through to final presentation ensuring each model effectively assists the design conversation.


Responsibilities


Model Production
— Work independently and as part of a team to produce high quality working models from sketch to final presentation at a range of scales using a variety of techniques and media
— Model drawing; translating architectural drawings into model drawings using Archicad and Rhino


Training 
— Facilitate inductions for new staff joining the studio and refresher training for current staff as needed.
— Supervise team model production; coaching and advising teams, providing pro-active support and assistance as and when required


Model Making Facilities
— General workshop and facilities maintenance support at Little Portland Street (LPS) and Hoxton Square locations
— Periodical stock take of tools and materials, ordering and restocking where required to ensure a smooth-running workshop
— Daily organisation and maintenance of workshop equipment, machinery and general cleanliness of all workshops and model making areas
— Additional ad-hoc responsibilities include making plywood furniture as prototyped to display samples and models where required


Model Archive and Administrative Support
— Assist with the organisation of the physical model archives
— Undertake regular maintenance checks, cleaning and restoration of all models on display at LPS and within our storage facilities
— Assisting with the packing, moving and storage of models
— Photographs models 
— Assist with general administration and guideline setting for model making


Health and Safety
— Actively ensure that staff using the model making workshop comply with our health and safety guidelines


Skills and Experience
— Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proactive and collaborative approach to model making 
— 2+ years of experience working with models
— Experienced at using Rhino, ArchiCAD and Adobe suite software, Microsoft Office Suite
— Highly organised, approaching any task with a problem-solving mindset
