Libin Chen studied construction management at the Urban Planning University in Shanghai and architecture at the Technische Universität in Berlin. After completing his degree in 1999, he worked as a freelance architect on a number of projects, including the Chinese Embassy Building in Berlin. Libin began working for David Chipperfield Architects' Berlin office in 2004. The following year he founded the Shanghai office together with Mark Randel, acting as main representative, then becoming partner in 2014. Libin has supervised project development of projects including Ninetree Village, the ROCKBUND and West Bund Museum and is responsible for the design and management of all projects in the Shanghai office.
