David Chipperfield Architects has been commissioned by Taichung-based developer Dingbon to design their first headquarters building. The high-rise office building responds to both its urban context and internal programme through a fragmented mass. A composition of distinct, regular blocks adapts to the site's irregular geometry, with taller volumes clustered at the centre and lower horizontal volumes extending outward to house public functions.
The building is organised around an offset core rather than a more standard centralised one. This arrangement gives the circulation core a strong architectural identity and allows it to rise as the tower's tallest element, with primary mechanical systems located in its crown. The core serves two slender office volumes with rectangular floor plates that maximise open, continuous workspace and provide expansive views across the city.
