In the latest episode of The Documentary Podcast on BBC World Service David Chipperfield and Manuel Rodríguez López speak to Susan Marling about the work of the Fundación RIA in Galicia, north-west Spain. Marling visited the foundation’s newly inaugurated headquarters, Casa RIA, in Santiago de Compostela during its opening in July.
The conversations explore how the foundation is looking beyond the traditional definition of architecture to try to make a positive impact on people’s lives and the environment by engaging in areas as diverse as forestry, sustainable food production, and traffic planning. The foundation’s initiatives involve working with planners, policy makers, politicians, as well as representatives of the commercial sector and the wider community to promote the understanding of regional issues within the context of global social and environmental challenges.
