Following an international competition, David Chipperfield Architects Berlin has been selected to design the new winery for 4G Wines. Located in South Africa's Cape Winelands, the building will blend into the mountainous landscape of Franschhoek, while establishing a new landmark for the wine region. The building consists of three terraced volumes, housing wine production, visitor infrastructure as well as private apartments. Rammed earth walls, using soil sourced on site, and timber ceilings foster a physical connection to nature. The monolithic walls enclose focussed and atmospheric spaces, while wide façade openings and expansive terraces provide sweeping views over the Franschhoek Valley.
