Last year David Chipperfield Architects and Zeidler Inc. won an international design competition for the reimagining of Block 2 of Canada’s Parliamentary Precinct in Ottawa. The two firms have now been awarded the contract for architectural and engineering services, marking the start of the project in earnest. The redesigned block will provide office space for the Senate and the House of Commons and will allow for the future consolidation of parliamentary accommodations. Historical structures will be preserved, converted and woven together with new low-carbon, efficient buildings to create a diverse yet coherent whole.
