The Bryant is one of five towers that has been shortlisted for the biannual International High-Rise Award, organsied by the Deutsches Architekturmuseum. The award recognises high-rise buildings that combine concerns of environment, urban context and form. The winner will be announced in November.
The practice’s first tower in New York takes inspiration from its landmark neighbours. Rejecting the glass façade of many contemporary towers, a pre-cast concrete façade was used that references the historic architectural context through its solidity, articulation and the use of aggregates similar to the stone used on the neighbouring buildings’ façades. The 32-storey building contains a hotel on the first 13 floors and private residences above.
