A 1:25 scale model of a large part of the Procuratie Vecchie building, the restoration of which is almost complete, is on public display in the Greenhouse of the Royal Gardens of Venice until 12 January 2022. The Procuratie Vecchie is owned by the Italian insurance company Generali who appointed David Chipperfield Architects Milan to restore and reconfigure the building.
Commissioned by Generali, the three-metre wooden model reveals the various layers of the building, from the iconic arched façade on St. Mark's Square to the complex of rooms and the inner courtyards, where new and old are integrated as a coherent whole. It will now host the activities of The Human Safety Net on the third floor, while the first and second floors will be given over to the representative offices of Generali and other companies.
The opening is scheduled for Spring 2022, when a large part of the building will be accessible to the public for the first time in its history.
