From 23 April to 24 May 2021, the recently completed Kunsthaus Zürich extension will open to visitors for the first time. The building, which is otherwise empty, can be experienced with a sound installation "The Sense of Things" by American artist William Forsythe which was conceived especially for the occasion. After this one-month test phase, the building will close again for the installation of artworks, with the inauguration planned for early October.
The extension faces the original Kunsthaus Zürich building across Heimplatz in central Zurich. Almost doubling the institution’s gallery space, the new extension will display the museum’s collection of classic modernism and contemporary art, provide a new home for the Emil Bührle Collection of European art, and have dedicated spaces for temporary exhibitions and events.
