The transformation of the Royal Academy of Arts' (RA) London campus has been shortlisted for a RIBA Regional Award. The masterplan project, which opened in 2018, connects the RA's historic Burlington House home to 6 Burlington Gardens to its rear. A new public route passes through the campus, exposing the activities of the institution including its schools and historic art collection. The project also included the renovation of 6 Burlington Gardens, providing new gallery space and reinstating a lecture theatre, both significantly expanding the institution’s public programme.
Due to safety concerns and the spread of Covid-19, the judgement process has been postponed until Autumn and the RIBA will announce a date for the awards process to recommence as soon as a jury can safely access all shortlisted buildings.
