The second biennial Martin Roth Symposium looks at the future of the museum. Organised in cooperation with re:publica and funded by Germany's Federal Foreign Office, the five-day event brings together cultural leaders, academics, artists and politicians to discuss challenges and visions in the fields of museums and culture. The symposium honours the legacy of Martin Roth (1955–2017), one of Germany’s greatest museum directors and cultural policy makers.
On Thursday 10 September David Chipperfield will speak about the relationship between the museum and its architecture, the museum’s public role and how he sees the future of cultural institutions during these uncertain times. The talk will be followed by a discussion with Edwin Heathcote, architecture critic at the Financial Times. The session is starting at 16.00 BST and can be watched online.
