Following its first year of being fully operational, the Amorepacific headquarters’ engineering designers Arup have conducted an evaluation of the building’s overall annual energy consumption. For this study, the building’s performance data was measured and compared with benchmarks for South Korean commercial buildings. The findings show that the building is using 50% less electricity and gas than these internationally comparable benchmark values, demonstrating that the low energy design approach has been successfully carried through into operation.
The Amorepacific headquarters represents a broad and holistic approach towards sustainability. From the very beginning the intention was to design a sustainable, low-energy exemplar building. The building sought to optimise operational energy performance outcomes through a range of design considerations and the inclusion of low and zero carbon technologies. This approach involved all architectural, structural and technical concepts, which influenced design decisions from the macro scale of volume, height and shape, to the micro scale of controls, metering and custom lighting. The successful implementation of these concepts has earnt the building a LEED Gold certification.
