09.08.2019Project presentation in Santander

Design proposals for the remodelling of Paseo de Pereda, Banco Santander’s historic headquarters, have been presented to the public by David Chipperfield at a press conference in the bank’s hometown in Spain. The event, which marks the beginning of the public consultation process, was led by Ana Botín, President of Banco Santander together with the city’s Mayor, Gema Igual and the President of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla. Also in attendance was Antonio Ortiz of Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos, who are working on a separate project for the bank directly adjacent.

The project will see the historic Paseo de Pereda building opened to the public, allowing it to become a more active part of the city’s social and cultural life. It will become a new home for the bank’s extensive art collection, which consists of more than a thousand art works, including pieces by Rubens, Picasso and Miró as well as serving as a space for a wide variety of events. A public terrace and multi-purpose events space at rooftop level will offer panoramic views over the city and the bay.
