The Hamburg city parliament has granted permission for developer Signa to purchase the land needed for the construction of the Elbtower on an exposed riverside site near the Elbbrücken. This new mixed-use building, designed by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin, will act as an entrance marker on the eastern edge of the Hafencity quarter and form a counterpoint to the Elbphilharmonie to the west. Construction is due to start in 2021, with completion scheduled for 2025.
