As part of the build-up to the official opening of the James-Simon-Galerie, a series of events took place Monday 1 July. These included press tours, a moderated talk in the upper foyer and a book launch for a publication about the building.
The James-Simon-Galerie is the first new building on Berlin’s Museum Island in almost 100 years. It contains major new facilities for the museum complex housed beneath a topography of open staircases and colonnades that embed the building within the public space of the city.
The building will officially open to the public 13 July following a ceremony to be attended by German chancellor Angela Merkel the day before.
