The Berlin office of David Chipperfield Architects is celebrating its anniversary. Twenty years ago, after winning the competition to rebuild the Neues Museum in Berlin, an office was set up in the German capital with just a handful of employees. Since 1998 the office has grown steadily, now employing more than 100 people. 2018 also marks the end of 20 years of work on Berlin's Museum Island for the office. The James Simon Galerie, a new entrance building for the island, is to complete by the end of this year.
On the anniversary of its founding on 5 July, current and former employees, partners and friends of the practice came together to celebrate. Almost 1,000 guests enjoyed a barbeque, music and fireworks on the Joachimstraße campus, while the office itself also opened its doors.
