In 2015 the Berlin office supported an exhibition at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt which drew attention to the social isolation of refugees in Germany. Inspired by contacts made, and realising that more could be done, the office subsequently set up a one-year trainee program for refugees which has been in place for over a year.
This commitment has now been formalised through a partnership with ‘Wir Zusammen’ (We together), a platform designed to assist companies looking to help refugees into the German workforce. Work is an important basis for integration in to a new environment and almost 200 companies have now signed up, recognising the many skills that migrants can offer. Beyond professional training, the practice enables the new employees to make contacts and learn a new language.
