From a field of 750 international entries judges Sofia von Ellrichshausen, Adam Caruso, Pippo Ciorra and AR Editor Christine Murray chose the private home in Buckinghamshire for the Architectural Review house of the year award.
The AR House awards celebrate excellence in one-off house design. The house is described by the jury as a radical new take on the English country house with a dramatic use of surface and volume blending a timeless classicism. Sofia von Ellrichshausen cited that ‘[…] the house is very rigid from the outside but the plan is a lot less obvious’, while Adam Caruso commented that design 'places a very large house in a very special landscape without disappearing. The domestic outdoor spaces, which have always been an issue in English country houses, are in courtyards, which is an innovation.’
