Following the budget approval for the Neue Nationalgalerie project in Berlin at the beginning of January, refurbishment work on the gallery can now commence. Guided by the principle ‘as much Mies as possible’, David Chipperfield Architects Berlin is appointed to restore the nearly 50-year-old building for the first time in its history. The museum will be closed for refurbishment for five and a half years and is due to reopen in summer 2020.
