Alexander Schwarz, partner at David Chipperfield Architects Berlin, has been appointed professor for ‘Public Building and Design’ at the Universität Stuttgart as the successor to Arno Lederer. Alexander, who is also a trained violin maker, has been working for David Chipperfield Architects for almost 20 years, initially in London and in Berlin since 1998. In 2006 he became a director and in 2011 a partner in the Berlin office. He is responsible for the design of numerous projects and competitions, including the Neues Museum and the James Simon Gallery on Berlin’s Museum Island, the Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach and the Museum Folkwang in Essen. Alexander Schwarz has previously been a visiting professor at the Bauhaus-Universität in Weimar, the Münster School of Architecture and the Hochschule für Technik in Stuttgart.
