In a discussion chaired by the RA’s Director of Artistic Programmes Tim Marlow, Anselm Kiefer and David Chipperfield explored the role of architecture as a theme and motif in the artist’s work, as well as the significance of the architectural contexts in which it is created and displayed.
Beginning with Kiefer’s extraordinary studio complexes in Germany and France, the discussion roamed over questions of materiality, the nature and feel of spaces, scale, history and the ruin.
