David Chipperfield Architects (Shanghai) Ltd. has opened as an independent studio within the David Chipperfield Architects group joining London (founded in 1985), Berlin (founded in 1998) and Milan (founded in 2006). David Chipperfield Architects has had a permanent presence in Shanghai since 2005 with a representative office completing a number of projects including the Liangzhu Museum in Liangzhu Cultural Village, the Rockbund Project and Art Museum in Shanghai, the Ninetree Village residential project in Hangzhou, and an office building on Moganshan Road also in Hangzhou.
DCA Shanghai is located in a converted warehouse in the heart of the former French Concession of the Huangpu district. Projects in design development in Shanghai comprise a new build bookstore next to Xujiahui Cathedral, a museum on the South Bund and residential courtyard houses in Hongquiao. The studio is also currently working on a 140-metre residential tower in Taiwan.
Together with David Chipperfield, the founding partners of DCA Shanghai are Mark Randel and Libin Chen.
