In cooperation with the London School of Economics Cities project Theatrum Mundi and dctp (Development Company for Television Program), the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the Alfred Herrhausen society hosted the event 'City, Religion, Capitalism. Turning Points for Civilization' in Berlin 3 - 5 April 2014.
The event featured the premiere of a three-part series of films by Alexander Kluge on the three concepts ‘essential to an understanding of contemporary societies’.
Following the first screening, David Chipperfield joined Professor Richard Sennett (London School of Economics & New York University), the filmmaker Alexander Kluge, Bernd M. Scherer (Director Haus der Kulturen der Welt) and Thomas Matussek (CEO of Alfred Herrhausen Society) for a public panel discussion on ‘The Principle of the City’.
David Chipperfield and Professor Richard Sennett also conducted a workshop on the topic with a group of early career scholars.
