The theme of the expanded editorial agenda for the September issue is Urbanity. While the future of vibrant city life remains under speculation, we consider those attributes that make it far more than a sum of its parts through essays by Rowan Moore, Jennifer Hattam and Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani.

Also in the issue David Chipperfield speaks to Indonesian architect Andra Matin about his distinctive form of practice, Álvaro Siza presents his early sketchbooks for a social housing project in Portugal, and Nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievich shares a passage on the accumulation of life lived in the kitchen during the Soviet era.
