Domus N.1045Design

The April issue of Domus was intended to coincide with Design Week in Milan, which has now been cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The agenda considers the role and value of design in light of the environmental and social challenges that confront us. Essays by Deyan Sudjic, Jonathan Keates and Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani explore these themes.

Also in the issue, David Chipperfield visits Renzo Piano in his Genoa studio, Jasper Morrison and Francesca Picchi invite seven young designers to illustrate a project of their own with the references that fuelled their design approach, Mona Fawaz and Carla Aramouny review Lina Ghotmeh’s Stone Garden in Beirut, and Jay Merrick visits the studio of British artist Rachel Whiteread.

The final section of the magazine reflects on the collaborative design process advocated by Yasmeen Lari, the archaic qualities of Fernand Pouillon’s buildings, and Ettore Sottsass’ directions for the presentation of his design work found in the Domus archives.
